Founders Memorial Garden

The University of Georgia is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States. It was founded in 1785 by a group of visionary settlers who helped to shape the history of Athens, GA. Today, UGA is home to more than 36,000 students and offers over 250 degree programs.

One of the most popular spots on campus is the Founders Memorial Garden in Athens, which pays tribute to the university’s founders. The garden features a library, an outdoor classroom, and a variety of statues honoring the UGA founders. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful flowers and plants that are found throughout the space.

About the Garden

The Garden contains over 300 different plant species, as well as ancient trees, bushes, and perennials. It was created, planned, and constructed under the direction of Hubert Bond Owens, the school’s founder and first dean of the landscape architecture program. Today, the College of Environment and Design maintains this 2.5-acre award-winning garden!
