Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium was founded in 2005. It is a public aquarium located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, United States. The aquarium houses more than 10 million gallons of water and over 120,000 animals from 500 different species including fish, birds, mammals and reptiles. 

Some of the main exhibits include the Tropical Forest that showcases plants and animal life from the rainforest; Ocean Voyager, a 6.3 million gallon exhibit that is home to whale sharks, manta rays and other open ocean fish; Cold Water Quest, an exhibit featuring penguins, seals and other animals from cold water climates; and River Scout, an exhibit highlighting the plants and animals that can be found in freshwater rivers.  The Georgia Aquarium also offers educational programs, special events and behind-the-scenes tours.

The Georgia Aquarium offers a variety of ways for visitors to experience the aquarium. Visitors can purchase general admission tickets, which allow access to all of the aquarium’s exhibits. Visitors can also purchase tickets to specific exhibits, such as the Cold Water Quest or Ocean Voyager. 

General admission tickets can be purchased online or at the aquarium ticket office. Discounted tickets are available for seniors, students, military personnel and groups of 10 or more. Annual passes are also available for purchase.

The Georgia Aquarium is open 365 days a year. Hours vary by season and day of the week. For the most current hours of operation, please check the aquarium’s website.

Field Trips

The Georgia Aquarium offers a variety of educational programs for school groups. Field trips can be tailored to meet the needs of specific grades and cover a variety of topics, such as animal adaptations, marine ecology and the history of aquariums. 

Field trips typically last between 2 and 3 hours and include a guided tour of the aquarium’s exhibits, a behind-the-scenes look at how the aquarium cares for its animals, and an educational program led by one of the aquarium’s educators. To schedule a field trip, please fill out the online form or contact the aquarium’s education department.
