There are several ways in which you can tell that your gutters need to be repaired or replaced. While many of the signs will be clearly visible, there are some signs that you will need to have a closer look at. The drainage system that your gutters use needs to be functional at all times to ensure that you won’t have leaks.
Here are 3 sure signs that your gutters NEED to be replaced:
Sign # 1
Watching how your gutters handle rainwater is the easiest way to tell if they need repairs or replacement. If water is draining behind your gutters, over your gutters, leaking in joints of your gutters, it is time to have the gutters checked. You may need to consider larger gutters as well if the gutters are overflowing.
These deficiencies lead to water damage on your walls, fascia, and boxing.
Sign # 2
Physical damage. If your gutters are dented, cracked or falling off your home, then it is time to replace at least this section of your gutters.
If the paint is peeling near the gutter, or below it, that is a clear sign of water leakage, which can ultimately destroy the walls of your home, even if it has been newly constructed. The main purpose of the gutter is to ensure that water is directed away from the walls and foundation of your home. If the gutter is not performing its main purpose the gutter needs to be immediately replaced or modified.
Sign # 3
Get a ladder and take a thorough look at your gutter system, so that you can examine for any blockages or clogs. If there are too many blockages or clogs and they will cause water to leak and spill. If this is the case, your gutters need to be thoroughly cleaned. If you are having to clean your gutters more than two to three times a year, it may be time to consider leaf free gutter covers.
